Nothing makes Garden City more proud than watching one of our own go big. Professional boxer, Victor Ortiz, has made it to the top. After coming from the streets of Garden City, Ortiz has made a dream come true. After gaining the title World Welter Weight Champion in April, he now plans to take down Floyd Mayweather, one of the biggest and toughest competitors in the boxing world. Mayweather has been fighting for years, and is currently undefeated. Mayweather has the knowledge and experience under his belt but with being very experienced, not having the strength or speed could cause the fighter to fall short of a win against an early fighter. Ortiz is known for having the quick speed mixed well with the strength and experience he’s received over the years. Making his way back from the horrific loss, Ortiz is ready to gain yet another win. Along with his recent win and the announcement of this upcoming fight, Ortiz has been keeping Kansas updated with his work outs by a show called 24/7, a show previewing Mayweather’s and Ortiz’s workouts in the fighting world. Ortiz is figured to be the underdog of the fight. With Ortiz proving everyone wrong with this title of world champion, no one really can tell how this fight will end. The fight will be taking place inLas Vegas on September 17, 2011, previewing on HBO, live.
